Moving forward – adopting disrupting technologies to shift the engineering landscape
In our field of work, there is a constant need for good quality and thorough building schematics, regardless of the condition of the building, or the state of its construction. To address this issue, Europraxis has invested in a partly automated Scan-to-BIM workflow that will enable us to produce higher quality work in a shorter amount of time in both our renovation and new construction projects.
Our workflow is enhanced through the use of 3D Point Clouds, 3D scans of buildings using laser scanners. To process the millions of 3D points from our scanner, we are choosing to use Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), deep learning algorithms that can organize inputs hierarchically and provide to the end user the full spectrum of information, from the fundamental structural data of a facility, all the way up to the finer features, such as furnishings.
One major concern with using 3D point clouds for capturing data, is the time-consuming (and, by extension, expensive) process of annotating and classifying the data of the cloud. That is why we are partnering with Quantum Neural Technologies SA, a Quantum Computing startup, to drastically accelerate and automate this process, pushing our processes past the limits of traditional computing and into the field of hybrid Classical – Quantum Computing.
